Aperture Sessions: Using AI for Growth
A write-up, photos, and an AI community
Hello friend,
We launched an event series this week called Aperture Sessions. The first one was yesterday and it filled me with so much joy. 40 people gathered in Old Street, London to eat breakfast and listen to a panel on using AI for growth.
Someone said, “I discovered more useful facts in one hour than I have in the last two years.”
I’m going to break down our panel below—a few announcements & links before we begin:
🌞 A webinar discussing how to win back lost customers
🌞 Management Today on the path to profitability for tech firms
🌞 A discussion about how to do your best work in growth
🌞 I’m going to be speaking at Turing x SYSTM alongside Matt Lerner & Sean Ellis.
Have a beautiful weekend,
Hannah
Using AI for Growth
I launched Aperture nearly two years ago: two years in November. It was 4 days before ChatGPT was released into the wild.
Hannah Parvaz, Steve Toy (CEO @ Memrise), Cien Solon (Co-founder @ LaunchLemonade), Yoann Pavy (Head of Growth @ AiApply)
The average human IQ is around 100. There’s a claim that now, already, ChatGPT has an IQ of 155. In the next 10 years, that’s predicted to go up to 1500.
And in 25 years? Mo Gawdat, ex-Chief Business Officer at Google X, believes that AI will be a billion times smarter than us. A billion. It’s not really conceivable is it, a billion?
I read a quote in Forbes that said “Artificial intelligence is the science and engineering of making computers behave in ways that, until recently, we thought required human intelligence.”
Well, AI is now embedded in our everyday lives and driving innovation in ways we’re only beginning to understand. Cien Solon (Co-founder @ LaunchLemonade), Steve Toy (CEO @ Memrise), and Yoann Pavy (Head of Growth @ AiApply) joined me in a discussion around accelerating growth and reshaping entire industries.
Use AI to scale, fast:
Memrise added 9 new languages in 6 months after adding 2 languages in the 7 preceding years.
Memrise scraped YouTube and programmatically created over 1M landing pages for popular artists so people could learn along with them.
Steve shared their SEO footprint has resulted in 15,000 registrations per day, organically, with no marketing spend.
Anyone, anywhere can launch a startup with the help of AI co-pilots. Cien has built up LaunchLemonade with a team of 2 humans and 21 AI assistants to over 500 B2B customers.
Use AI to ideate and get you to 90% of the way. It can get you there, fast, but it’s up to you to close that final gap.
AI won’t be taking people’s jobs, but people using AI will be.
Obligatory selfie
We need to watch out:
AI can be biased. Go and try it out. Ask your AI friend to generate a picture of a doctor and a picture of a nurse. Ask it for a picture of a CEO and one of an assistant. The doctor will be male, and so will the CEO. The nurse and the assistant will be—yep, you guessed it.
The information shared in responses isn’t always reliable. Make sure you fact-check every response you get for hallucinations. One tip for this is to ask for citations for each piece of information and follow the links to see if they’re real.
Reflect on your own internal biases when using generative AI, this will stop you from alienating any customer, potential or otherwise.
Setting up guardrails is crucial as AI can easily go off course without proper constraints.
The biggest challenge people face isn’t the AI itself, but the willingness to stay curious and keep experimenting with AI. How we use AI must develop at the same pace as the AI evolves. Adapt to survive.
The key takeaways were:
Just jump in the pool: get in there and start using these tools. You’re not going to break anything or blow anything up. Just get going.
Don’t just consume: build. Make your own GPT or train your own assistants, and influence how this evolves.

A huge thank you to everyone who came down to the event, it was absolutely gorgeous to see you, and I appreciate that you gave up your morning to come to learn about AI and growth. You can find photos from the event here.
The next event will be in October and we’ll be sharing information about it soon.
A big shout-out to my team for doing an incredible job with the event. You were all fantastic.
